interop - How to avoid building a walled garden? -
Some friends and I had an idea for a website and started working on it. It will rely on people contributing to shared knowledge, and people will also be able to create personal profiles with appropriate amount of data. Our intention is that when people make their profile on our site, people should be able to take advantage of their content on other sites (example: Flickr, YouTube).
It is for us that we want to become a good internet citizen, and our website is useful for people and people, even if they have an account or not. We also want to make sure that no data on our site people do not contribute is 'lock in' and it is suitable for other sites.
Should any specific practices follow, and similarly to us?
Thank you!
I recommend that you follow the example of this site.
