httphandler - asp.net handlers and extensions - am I doing it incorrectly? -

I have a new "hidden" property (actually placed in the App_Data directory) to complete my new project But there is a definite date before that, they should do something like they are not.

I have made such a thing hundred times with the page object, but as I started working on it, I thought I was the operator. Never worked with them (and a bit frightened by them), I was happy to know that they would complete my XML and JPG files without the upper part of the page class. Already, I'm glad I accepted it. I wrote it to handle the functionality like "MyHandler.Shex? SecretFile = Blah.xml", and it works very well.

Then I started looking for a special detail, so that "blah.xml" secret "will be picked up by handler and blah.xml will be withdrawn after checking the date. The light went out, and I worked the code again, so that he handled that case. This work (in the IDE)! I was very excited.

Getting it on Dev Server (IIS) Was: I had to register .net type (no big Not sure) Secure as, and it still does not work until I uncheck the "Verified file does not exist" checkbox. (Blah.xml.secret is apparently not present: blah.xml, but Not only on the spot, it is being asked only in the safe App_Data directory.) This is not a great deal, but now my clever solution depends on the implementation of two IIS statements

So my question is: Is it the intent of the handler in asp.net The use? I'm moving this recognition? I think I sites are viewed such moves in the past like, but one thing I am trying to do, I look at the complex IIS changes. In my research on this, I did not find a slam sting 1-2-3 guide to use handler, which included an example like this, so I am thinking that I am misusing it or about it I'm going wrong in / P>

Yes, it's too much how it works. (There is a remote chance in Windows Server 2008 that you can make settings with web config so that you have to change anything in IIS.)

If you use that extension which is not already Registered to be operated by ASP.NET Engine, you have to register it. If you use an extension using APX before ASP.NET, like Espacks, you do not have to register anything in IIS. (When you run it in the integrated web server in Visual Studio, everything is already controlled by ASP.NET, which is why it works there.)
